Hi all! If you've been following me for a little while, you've likely seen my family and travel posts- I have an almost three year old and I try to travel as much as I am able :)
What I haven't yet posted about is my business, until now. Blogging is therapeutic for me. I enjoy sharing aspects of my life with the world, largely because of the connection it allows me to make with other individuals. Real Estate is a large part of my life and I've considered writing about it for a while, but always found an excuse. Here it goes!
I started my Real Estate career a couple years ago. My daughter was about 7 months old and we were living with my parents. I felt lost. I was majorly struggling and couldn't find the right direction for our future. I had always had an interest in Real Estate (thank you HGTV) but never went through with getting my license until, finally, I felt like I had nothing else to lose.
I dove in, took the necessary course and tests, and passed. I found a brokerage I wanted to work with and focused on rentals at first. I was commuting about an hour each way and it was getting pretty tough. My daughter was still breastfed at the time, so being away from her for more than a few hours just wasn't practical for me. Eventually, I switched to a brokerage that was closer to home and spent a significant amount of my time training, trying to make my first sale. I stayed there for a while, but I wasn't getting any business. I considered getting out of Real Estate all together. I just couldn't make it sustainable for me.
I switched brokerages, yet again. I was back to working the rental market and I stuck to that for several weeks. I went on appointment after appointment, showing rentals to people who would apply only to be turned down. I couldn't seem to work with anyone who was qualified to rent, let alone purchase! I was spending more money than I was making, as the fees for the brokerage were quite pricey. Needless to say, I got burned out. I asked my broker to switch me to sales and I finally made my first sale. I continued to sell, but not at the pace or price range I wanted to be in.
I began spending a lot of time in Celebration, FL and was considering making a move there. I knew I'd have to switch brokerages again if I did that and I wasn't sure where I would go if I did.
While up in Celebration, I was bike riding and looking at open houses just for the heck of it and I met another REALTOR®. We were small talking and chatted about what my experience in Real Estate had been so far. I was obviously frustrated. She told me about her experience with Keller Williams and referred me to an office a little closer to me. She suggested that I start my future with Keller Williams at the office closer to me so I could easily make it to the various trainings available. I did that and then set a goal for myself to move up to Celebration in about 6 months time.
In 7 months, I had transferred to the Keller Williams in Celebration and moved into an apartment with my daughter. I was doing it. It has not always been easy, but I was making it happen. I will add- I'm a single parent, which can present its own set of challenges for me in the work place.
That being said, Keller Williams has been amazing to me. I have grown not just in business, but as a person as well since becoming an agent here. I've heard some people in the industry say that it doesn't matter what brokerage an agent is with, success depends on the agent. To an extent, I agree. Most of this job relies on the skill and work-ethic of the agent however, no other brokerage has given me the tools and support I've needed to succeed like Keller Williams has.
If you are struggling in Real Estate, I see you. I've been there. Heck, sometimes I'm still there, its just a different kind of struggle now. But, I can see my business growing. I can see a brighter future for my family. If you have questions, reach out to me. I would love to hear from you.
If you are considering starting a career in Real Estate, I'd love to talk with you too. It can be hard to navigate the best direction to take. I can help.
